One of the very few paintings I made in green in the year 2020. Perhaps, the only piece. It’s a rendition of Jalan Tun Sambathan 3, in Brickfields – brightly lit at night. I wanted to highlight the massive white signboard that traverses and wraps the entire shape of the building on the right – leading the eyes towards the focal point in the distance. The curvature of the road also lends a compositional element / technique that breaks up the very linear perspective. A fine example of design and graphical elements that arises in most of my cityscapes. The skyline is painted very loosely and this in turn, informs some of the foreground elements of the building on the right. A muted, harmonious color palette is at play here with very minimal red specks of highlight. Something I was experimenting on at the time. Large vs. Small shapes. Hard vs. Soft edges. A very moody rendition of this infamous street.
