Developing an emotive and highly focused use of color, Eugenie Wee’s brush works bring audiences’ attention to thriving vitality of animals. She draws animals mostly are dogs or cats, the closest animals to humans. They are drawn with a pair of piercing eyes and look at a certain distance as if they were having thoughts in their minds. Some of present works personalize animals in human characteristics that create adorable portraits of animals. They are one of us and they are part of a family. Eugenie Wee’s paintings are deeply engaged with themes of healing and joyfulness.
About Eugenie Wee 黄佩菱
Eugenie was born in Kelantan. She is currently living in Kuala Lumpur. She started her career in teaching young children in kindergarten. Teaching has promoted and enhanced her creativity. Her first experience as an artist was when her works have caught public attention in 2018. It was there that she realized that she wanted to pursue her career in this field. She believes that being as artist is something that one is born to do and not learned at school. She went on to study through practical experience, learning through trial and error and self-learning studying the works of various reputable artists as her teachers.
