Bamboo Shoot
Everything I do is about nature, about how to feel nature, how to communicate with nature, how people coexist with nature, and the seemingly detached but simple existence. The bamboo tip is what I want to depict the state of “wind” in nature. Wind is an invisible thing, but you can feel its existence. Because of this, we think that wind must be light, and we like to stand on a high place to feel it and close our eyes. But the wind is so powerful that we can even “ride the wind”. Sculpture is a tangible object to express invisible things. The slender and powerful state of bamboo can well interpret the feeling of wind. It can sway with the wind and blend into one. It has its own toughness and does not drift away. So I also carved a little man on the bamboo tip to feel this comfortable state together. It is no longer a little man walking heavily on the ground. It feels like a little bird, a bamboo leaf, light and integrated with the wind. I also implanted a second layer of meaning in the work. In traditional Chinese culture, Feng Shui means wind is energy, the source of all things, and represents growth. Therefore, new shoots grow under the bamboo, which is another meaning of “bamboo tip”. It is not just about feeling the wind, but the arrival of the wind also makes the whole work more full of inner vitality.
