Red series is inspired by Tony’s childhood memory with his grandmother. Tony favourite colour is red. Red also represents happiness and fortune in Chinese culture. Tony lived with his grandmother when he was a child. He has seen many Peranakan tableware at her house. Although the artist is not the descendent of Peranakan, he is deeply influenced by multicultural environment in his growth background. Peranakan is not just one symbol of diverse cultures in Malaysia, but is more about an emotional connection between grandmother and him.
