Waiting For The Moon 侯月 is Chinese artist Gao Xiao Yun’s painting, inspired by Suzhou township in China, as so-called “Venice of the East”.
A Chinese proverb says “ A poetry is drawn in a painting and a painting is written in a poetry” which refers the best of art is to capture spirit of objects so viewers can place themselves into it, instead of life-like image which shows a mirror image to viewers without imagination.
Chinese artist Gao Xiao Yun illustrates sceneries are filled with an unlimited sense of time and light, with a slow movement of growth that rises into the misty horizon of a Suzhou landscape. He does not try to duplicate exact scenery of Suzhou in his painting, instead, he captures myriad of colour changes due to interactions among lights, air and water, which expresses a calm and peaceful atmosphere of the landscape.
